Round nine of Monster Energy AMA Supercross headed to Atlanta, GA this past weekend. Check out the Suzuki Inside Line on what happened with your favorite RM Army racer inside the all new Mercedes-Benz Stadium!
Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing-
The Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team was eager to compete at round nine of the 2018 AMA Supercross series. Justin Hill looked inspired on the Suzuki RM-Z450, qualifying second for the unique “Triple Crown” format. An unfortunate crash in the second main event caused him to jump off the bike mid-air and hit the ground. The impact resulted in a broken toe, which sidelined him for the final main event. Suzuki RM-Z250 mounted Kyle Peters used good starts and consistency to finish seventh overall for the night. Peters has moved into a three-way tie for ninth overall in the standings.
Malcolm Stewart is making the most of his opportunity with the Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team. Stewart put his head down and charged in every main event to score a ninth-place overall finish. After scoring a third-place finish two weeks ago, Jimmy Decotis was looking to improve on a career-best result. He battled the treacherous track in finishing inside the top ten in two of the three mains, and finished 10th overall. Decotis sits sixth in the 250 East championship standings.
Weston Peick will not be kept from his goal of finishing on the podium. Peick had a mishap in the first 450 qualifying session when he ejected over the 70-foot triple jump. The SoCal native grimaced in pain, but fought his way into the night show. Peick would have finished well inside the top-ten had it not been for a stroke of bad luck in the first moto. As it is, he stands sixth in the point standings.
H.E.P. Motorsports-
The H.E.P. Motorsports team made their way to Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia this past Saturday night. Team rider Kyle Cunningham qualified for the night show by being in the top-19 fastest riders during qualifying sessions. Cunningham’s night started off strong in the first two main events with back-to-back 12th place finishes. In the third and final main event of the night, Cunningham was moving fast through the pack but a small mistake caused him to go off track. After he re-entered the track in 16th position, Cunningham was scored in 15th place overall for the evening.
As the 250 SX West Championship series is on break for another two weeks, H.E.P. Motorsports rider Tallon LaFountaine took the opportunity to stay in racing form by competing in the third round of the Big6 GP Off-Road Championship series at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA. Racing a completely stock Suzuki RM-Z250 in the Pro2 class, LaFountaine led the majority of the 90 minute race but had an untimely pit stop that set him back, finishing in second place for the day.
Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki-
The Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki team headed to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with the #58 Suzuki RM-Z450 ready for battle. Matt Bisceglia had a good start to the day qualifying for the Triple Crown format night show with a time of 55.446. The night was looking promising for Bisceglia with a pair of 16th place finishing in the first two main events. However, during the third and final main event, Bisceglia had an unfortunate crash on the opening lap. The result was an injured hand that prevented Bisceglia from finishing the race. The Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki team looks to regroup for Daytona this weekend.
Hatch Racing/Thor/Wayside Lumber/Yoshimura/Suzuki
RM Army off-road racer Gary Sutherlin headed to Glen Helen Raceway for the third round of the Big6 GP Championship series. When the green flag dropped, Sutherlin rocketed out of the pack with a top-five start on lap one. Unfortunately, during lap three while battling for fourth place, Sutherlin got tangled up in lap traffic and went off course and crashed. Initial injury report looks promising with no broken bones. Sutherlin looks to regroup for round three of the Western Off-Road Racing Championship Series (WORCS) on March 23rd in Lake Havasu, AZ.
Amateur Supercross-
Suzuki RM Army amateur motocross racers have been racking up podiums during Supercross Amateur Race days the past couple of weekends. This unique four-event schedule allows amateur racers to compete on the supercross track the day after the pro’s battle it out under shining lights.
